Electrophysiological Tests

These tests are performed in the ophthalmology department of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, and are commonly used in diagnosing genetic retinal diseases.

An ERG (electroretinogram) records the combined electrical activity of different cells within the retina. The ERG is important in diagnosing Retinitis Pigmentosa, and drug toxicity affecting the macula.

An EOG (electrooculogram) is another electrical activity test, which provides a different measurement of retinal malfunction. Deviations from normal can be caused by various retinal disorders.
