Tomey UD 1000 A/B Scanner Ultrasound Unit

An ultrasound of the eye is a very important test when a view of the retina is obstructed. The most common reasons for no view are development of an advanced cataract or a vitreous hemorrhage from trauma or diabetic retinopathy.

When no view is possible, an ultrasound provides assurance that the retina is not detached.

This ultrasound shows an upper and lower retina detachment, but the retina remains attached to the optic nerve.

The ribbon-like structure seen in motion above is the detached portion of the retina.
