Staff at the Retina Imaging Centre are assisted in their caring work for patients with the latest equipment and developments to assist in the most effective diagnoses and treatments of retinal problems. The use of new technology enables the diagnoses and treatment to be carried out in the least invasive manner.

The Retina Imaging Centre was the first clinic in Alberta — and one of the first in Canada — to obtain an optical coherence tomography (OCT) unit. The diagnostic capacity of this equipment for many macular diseases is unsurpassable.

A sophisticated funds camera provides both detailed photos of the retina, as well as providing fluorescein angiography testing to be performed in the clinic.

Patients suffering from trauma, vitreous hemorrhoraging or diabetic retinopathy are able to see instant computer images of their problems, when tested with the ultrasound unit.

An argon laser unit is used in the office for treatment of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal holes and tears.

The Clinic's close association with the ophthalmology unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital enables Dr. Uniat to have electrophysiological tests carried out at the hospital and the test results provided to the Centre for analysis and diagnosis.
